How to tell if your Client has tension

The most common ways people is seeing when someones shoulders are tight and by what the person is saying BUT there’s so much more that’s being missed!

As Mindset Coaches, Pilates Instructors, Yoga Teachers, PTs and Psychologists - we need to notice when clients have tension as this will affect the efficiency of the session.

If we miss the tension and clients don’t speak about it - clients automatically have a barrier up and everything the Change Worker offers causes frustration and irritability for clients. When clients feel this in their session - they will link the Change Worker with that and change will be hindered until they experience a shift in the next few sessions.

Things to look for when looking for tension - there may be just one or more of these:

  • Tense shoulders

  • Jaw clenches

  • Fingers stiff

  • Sharp, jaggered movements less flow

  • Shallow breath

  • When they breathe in it’s like they’re gasping for air and the area above their collar bone visibly hardens

  • Digestive issues

  • Stress and tension also puts your health at risk as mentioned by the Mayo Clinic

  • Swelling

Next time you notice these things in your client’s body language - use methods in your tool kit to see when the shift occurs.
